FAQ
1. How do I get to Kuta, Lombok?
If you’re flying internationally, you can either:
✈️ Fly directly to Lombok International Airport (LOP): the easiest and most seamless route. The shala is just 25 minutes from the airport. Airport transfers can be arranged directly through the accommodation.
🌊 Or fly into Bali (Denpasar Airport, DPS) and take a 2.5–3 hour boat ride to Lombok. If you choose this route, I recommend taking a morning boat for the smoothest seas. The two most reliable companies are Gili Gili and Eka Jaya Fast Boat. Once you arrive at the port in Lombok, it’s about a 2-hour car ride south to Kuta. It adds some travel time, but it’s a beautiful journey and perfect if you want to spend a few days in Bali first.
2. When should I arrive and depart?
Please plan to arrive by the evening of Sunday, February 1st. Training formally begins Monday morning, February 2nd at 7:00am. Arriving early gives you time to settle in, rest, and connect with your group before we begin.
Departure
Our closing ceremony will take place on Saturday afternoon, February 28th. You can depart that evening or the following morning. If you’d like to extend your stay, you’re welcome to book extra nights directly through Samastha Yoga Shala or nearby accommodations.
4. What kind of food is served?
Two daily meals are included, with vegan, vegetarian, and omnivore options.
After you register, you’ll receive a student intake form from Maddy, where you can share any dietary needs or allergies so our kitchen can accommodate you fully.
3. Do I need to bring my own yoga mat or props?
Mats and props (blocks, bolsters, straps) are available at the shala, but you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
5. What’s the group size?
To maintain intimacy and personalized attention, the training is limited to 12 students.
6. Can I join even if I’m not sure I want to teach?
Absolutely. Many students join for self-discovery, to deepen their practice, and to explore yoga beyond the mat.
7. Is this training Yoga Alliance certified?
Yes. This program is a 200-hour Yoga Alliance–accredited Hatha Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training, which means that upon successful completion, you’ll be eligible to register as a 200-hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) through Yoga Alliance.
Certification is earned, not simply handed out. To receive your certificate, you’ll need to meet a minimum standard of attendance, participation, understanding of key concepts, and demonstration of teaching competency.
That said, Maddy is deeply invested in your success. This training is designed to help you meet (and exceed) those standards with confidence. If, for any reason, you need extra support to meet the final criteria, Maddy will work with you directly after the training to ensure you feel ready and fully qualified to step into teaching.
8. What’s the weather like in February?
Expect warm, tropical days around 30 °C (86 °F) and balmy evenings around 24 °C (75 °F). February is part of Lombok’s lush green season, which means you might experience tropical showers, often in the late afternoon or at night. The rain keeps the island vibrant and the air soft and warm. This sets the perfect atmosphere for cozy evenings, deep practice, and grounding into nature’s rhythm.
9. Is Wi-Fi available?
Yes. Reliable Wi-Fi is available throughout the property so you can stay connected if needed, though we encourage you to use this time to unplug and be fully present in your practice.
10. Can I stay longer after the training?
Yes. Many students choose to stay and enjoy Indonesia a bit longer. Additional nights can be booked directly through our accommodation partner or at another hotel or guesthouse nearby - all at your own additional expense.
11. Are payment plans available?
Yes. Flexible payment plans are available for those who prefer to split their tuition into multiple installments.
You can view full details by clicking here
Please note: Early bird pricing and first choice of rooms are reserved for those who pay in full before November 1, 2025.
12. Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, travel insurance is highly recommended for all students. It provides peace of mind in the event of flight delays, medical needs, or unexpected changes. You can explore providers such as:
SafetyWing (great for digital nomads and long stays)
World Nomads (popular for adventure and yoga travelers)
Allianz Travel (solid global coverage)
Be sure your plan includes medical coverage and trip cancellation/interruption protection for international travel.
13. Will I have free time?
Yes. Training runs Monday through Saturday, with Sundays completely free for rest, reflection, or adventure.
Each training day also includes spacious breaks: either an extended lunch for self-study and rest, or earlier evening finishes for sunset and connection time.
16. How do I get data while in Indonesia?
Staying connected in Indonesia is easy! You can either:
Use an international eSIM (like Airalo or Nomad), which works instantly on arrival and doesn’t require registration. I personally use Airalo — it’s simple and reliable. Use my referral code MARYMA6955 to get $3 off your first eSIM, or click here.
Or buy a local Indonesian SIM card (such as Telkomsel or XL). If you go this route, note that Indonesia requires all foreign phones to register their IMEI number with customs within 24 hours of arrival. You can usually do this right at the airport or at a nearby customs office.
If you’re using an eSIM, you can skip the registration entirely, just make sure your phone is unlocked before you travel.
14. Do I need a visa?
Yes. We recommend a 60-day tourist visa, as the standard 30-day visa can feel tight with travel days on each end of the 28-day training.
The 60-day visa can typically be applied for online or through your nearest Indonesian consulate before arrival.
17. Which vaccinations do you recommend for traveling to Lombok, Indonesia?
Getting vaccinated is a personal decision, and there are no mandatory vaccines required for entry into Indonesia. That said, many travelers choose to visit a travel health clinic before departure to make sure they’re protected and feel at ease while abroad.
Commonly recommended vaccines for Lombok include:
Routine vaccines: MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis), polio, varicella (chickenpox), influenza, and COVID-19.
Hepatitis A: Recommended for most travelers, as it can be contracted through food or water.
Hepatitis B: Recommended if you’ll be in close contact with locals or staying for an extended time.
Typhoid: Helpful protection for travelers eating in local markets or rural areas.
Japanese Encephalitis: Suggested if you’ll spend time in rural areas or plan to travel more widely across Indonesia.
Rabies: Considered for anyone spending time around animals, as it is present in Indonesia.
It’s best to consult your doctor or a travel medicine specialist at least 4–6 weeks before your flight to make the right decision for you.
18. What is Hatha Vinyasa yoga?
If you’ve ever taken one of my Vinyasa classes, this is the style I’ll be teaching and guiding you to share. In traditional Vinyasa, we often move quickly from one posture to the next - flowing breath to movement. In Hatha Vinyasa, we bring in the mindful, alignment-based qualities of Hatha yoga to create more balance and awareness within that flow.
You’ll still experience the creative, fluid nature of Vinyasa, but with more time to explore alignment, stability, and presence within each pose. We’ll also integrate meditation and pranayama (breathwork) into our daily practice and teaching methodology - elements rooted in the Hatha tradition that help connect body, breath, and mind.
This blend allows you to embody both strength and softness, movement and stillness, and to share classes that feel grounded, intentional, and deeply connected.
15. Can I share a room with my friend?
Yes. If you’re joining with a friend, email hello@maddyjoneswellness.com, and Maddy will do her best to pair you together. Make sure to book the same room type (i.e. dorm room or triple room)
