Student stories
In their own words
Some came to teach, some came for themselves, and almost none of them felt "ready" before day one. Here's what they have to say, every word of it.
"The journey with Maddy was profoundly one of the most transformative experiences."
I could not recommend Maddy’s YTT program more to anyone looking to both teach or deepen their own knowledge and understanding of Yoga. Maddy clearly and thoroughly outlined the true essence of Yoga in its entirety and went above and beyond to provide the most supportive and encouraging space for her upcoming students. Her care, passion and devotion could never go unnoticed; she truly is one of a kind! The journey with Maddy was profoundly one of the most transformative experiences; challenging and exceeding my limits as both a student and teacher in ways beyond my imagination. The training awakened an inner joy, presence and love that I had been longing for; a journey I will never forget. I strongly recommend this training to anyone interested in teaching or simply to challenge the body, mind and connect deeper with their spirit. I completed the training feeling confident to teach and ready to share my skills with others! Samastha Yoga School became a home that I will always return to x
"I walked away from this experience feeling so confident, prepared, and excited to teach yoga."
I honestly cannot put into words how grateful I am that I chose to complete my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with Maddy. From the moment I first reached out before the training even began, Maddy made me feel so supported and welcome and was always there to answer any questions I had. That same care, presence, and willingness to hold space for every student continued throughout the entire training and has continued since the training has ended. You can truly feel how much love, thought, and energy Maddy has poured into creating this training. Every detail was so intentional, and the depth of knowledge and wisdom she shared throughout the course was incredible! What made the experience even more meaningful was the genuine connection and sense of community she created throughout the training. Maddy ensured that everyone felt safe, supported, encouraged and capable. Maddy brought such beautiful energy to every single day of the training. Her ability to create a safe and welcoming space allowed me to fully immerse myself in the experience, build confidence, and grow not only as a future teacher but also as a person. The training exceeded all of my expectations and truly could not be faulted! I walked away from this experience feeling so confident, prepared, and excited to teach yoga. Not only did I deepen my understanding of yoga, but I also learned so much about myself throughout the journey. It was truly a life-changing experience. I am so grateful to have had Maddy as my teacher and now a lifelong friend. Thank you so much, Maddy, for your guidance, support, and encouragement throughout this journey. I wish you all the best and cannot wait to see all that you achieve next!!
"This was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. I think it made my life bulletproof."
This YTT was truly valuable- and deeply transformative. What i love most was Maddy’s strong background in kinesiology. There was so much practical content on anatomy, movement, and how different bodies work. It gave me a lot of confidence in being able to teach well and safely. I also really loved how much emphasis she put on teaching and cueing in a trauma-informed way with clear, engaging language. That felt super important in helping students deepen their own personal practice, even in a group setting. Beyond the skills, the training was so well-rounded in a way that felt like more than learning how to teach yoga asanas. Maddy wove philosophy, practices, and self-inquiry together with real structure so it wasn’t abstract. We explored tools like chakra-focused practices, mudra and mantra circles, and more. I left with a clearer understanding of my “why,” and the tools to actually embody it. Beyond what we covered, Maddy’s facilitation helped me feel genuinely held and supported throughout the whole training. She’s genuinely a great teacher, balancing wisdom with playfulness, and structure with spaciousness. She encouraged us to embrace ourselves exactly as we are, as humans first, while building confidence in our own teaching voice and personal leadership. I left with so much gratitude- for Maddy, and for all the beautiful women I got to grow with in the cohort. This was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself- not only did this training made my year bulletproof. I think it made my life bulletproof. With so much love and sincere gratitude,
"I feel confident teaching, leading classes, assisting students... and I’m excited to!"
Completing the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training with Maddy under Samastha Yoga Shala was an amazing experience and I enjoyed every moment of it. Maddy is an incredible yoga teacher, guide, mentor and leader and you would be lucky to be taught and led by such an inspiring woman! I can honestly say this experience has changed my life. Maddy provided me with the skills and confidence to embark as a yoga teacher. I feel confident teaching, leading classes, assisting students with my actions, hands and words... And I'm excited to!! Thank you Maddy for providing me with experience and the tools to teach. You are really incredible and I'm so glad I committed to the YTT!
"This training is not just for the younger generation."
Maddy was my 200 hr Teacher Trainer in 2024. It was an exceptional experience and she poured so much into it, far past what I have heard other yoga teacher graduates speak about in their 200 hours training programs. As a 56 year old deciding to take this step, Maddy made me feel completely comfortable through out the entire process. This training is not just for the younger generation. She treats everyone the same and with love & grace. If it’s something you have been thinking about doing, I highly encourage you to take that next step, even for personal growth reasons, and to deepen your yoga practice. You will get so much out of it, as I did. I can guarantee that you will get everything you signed up for and more!
"Even if you choose not to be an instructor (I didn’t think I would be one), it will be an experience you never forget."
I had the honor to be one of Maddy’s students for not only my YTT but my first experience in yoga in general. I started yoga about two years ago, walking into her class with low back pain. I have never done yoga in my life and as an instructor Maddy was clear, gave guidance, and I felt her support immediately despite not knowing her before. A few months later, I became curious about YTT and Maddy gave me her full support in joining YTT. Little did I know that this would be the start of my journey of eventually being an instructor myself and teaching 30+ people at a local gym. Maddy is a gem, a person who is truly unique and has genuine passion for not just yoga but her students. She teaches in such a way that even the least experienced person will come out of YTT an instructor with knowledge and mindfulness. She teaches you how to be a yogini on and off the mat, from technical skills such as body anatomy, breath work, and what movements target which body part, to the internal, mindfulness of yoga, she captures it all. She is patient, extremely organized, and more importantly she is someone to connect with. You will never feel like a stranger with her, you can openly learn with no limits, which makes YTT so meaningful that even if you choose not to be an instructor (I didn’t think I would be one), it will be an experience that you will never forget and take with you in your daily life.
"Thanks to her, I have become even more confident and open to growth."
I am truly grateful that I decided to join Maddy’s course. Everything was carefully planned down to the smallest detail, and Maddy shared her knowledge with great passion while helping us break through our personal barriers. Thanks to her, I have become even more confident and open to growth. I wholeheartedly recommend this course to anyone who is passionate about yoga and wants to discover how deep and meaningful this practice truly is. An incredible amount of inspiring knowledge, mindful breathing techniques, meditation, anatomy lessons, and beautiful sound bath sessions make this experience unforgettable.
"She doesn’t just pass on information, she truly shapes her students."
Being led by Maddy in my 200 hour training was such a gift. She has a special way of holding space that made our group feel safe, supported, and connected. The environment she created allowed each of us to open up, grow, and really step into ourselves as teachers. Her depth of knowledge in anatomy and yoga philosophy is endless, but what makes her such a powerful facilitator is how she shares it. She has a way of making complex teachings feel fun and approachable. I left training not only with the tools to teach yoga, but with a much deeper understanding of myself as a yogini! Because of the way she showed up for us, with wisdom, compassion, and so much genuine care, I feel more confident stepping into my own path as a yoga teacher. She doesn’t just pass on information, she truly shapes her students, and I am so grateful to have learned from her!
"What started out as a general exploration of what yoga is turned into a life changing journey."
I had the pleasure of having Maddy lead my 200hr YTT training. What started out as a general exploration of what yoga is, and how to better appreciate the practice turned into a life changing journey. Maddy always showed up prepared and created space for me to learn in my own unique way. She instilled in me the philosophies of yoga that go far beyond the poses and physical practice, but to a way of living in this world that positively impacts myself and those around me. Maddy's way of providing feedback enhanced my growth and depth of understanding...it also helped me to build confidence in myself and my ability to interact with those around me. My personal practice of yoga has only deepened since receiving my YTT certification, and I have become incredibly grateful for the way that my body is able to move and am able to hold space for those who practice yoga around me....that was a direct result of the way that Maddy showed up everyday during YTT and when she was teaching classes. If you are interested in becoming a yoga teacher, Maddy will ensure that you have all the tools that you need AND, if you are just looking to deepen your own understanding of all that yoga entails and build a deeper spiritual connection with the world, Maddy is the person to learn from!
"Her clear, thoughtful cues completely transformed my alignment."
I had the privilege of completing my yoga teacher training with Maddy, and she was such an incredible facilitator throughout the journey. Her depth of knowledge and genuine curiosity for all aspects of yoga, from philosophy to physical practice, created a truly well-rounded and inspiring learning environment. One of the things that stood out most was her ability to offer clear, thoughtful cues that completely transformed my alignment. I still find myself missing her classes because of how impactful her guidance was on my practice. She has a gift for blending the physical with the philosophical in a way that makes yoga feel both accessible and deeply meaningful. Above all, she was supportive, dedicated, and invested not only in teaching but also in continuing to grow as a student herself. That authenticity made her such a relatable and inspiring teacher. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone considering teacher training. She is not only a wonderful instructor but also an incredible person, and I’m grateful for the influence she’s had on my path as a yogini.
"Even now as an instructor, I often find myself remembering her cues and teaching techniques."
Maddy has a special gift for teaching. One of my favorite things about doing my 200-hour yoga teacher training with her was her unique approach. She puts so much of herself into her training, which makes the experience truly memorable. Even now as an instructor, I often find myself remembering some of her cues and teaching techniques. She always came to our sessions prepared, and I always left feeling empowered. I encourage anyone wanting to pursue a yoga certification to do their homework and look at what students say about their teachers, because that is the experience you will have as well. I can confidently say that with Maddy, it will be a memorable one.
"Maddy has a gift with people, and her passion is displayed in all that she says and lives by."
Maddy was a pivotal part of my yoga journey as I joined as a student in the studio she operated as a Lead Teacher at, and was my guide through my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2023. Her expressive personality and deeply knowledgable nature made it easy to absorb everything in the little time we had, and through many weekends was able to not only expand our horizons in yoga, but understand each of us personally and provide us with the resources we needed to grow as individuals. Maddy has a gift with people, allowing her to be a crucial part of the environment needed to learn and develop and her dedication shows in everything she does, and her passion is displayed in all that she says and lives by. Maddy is a good friend and an even better teacher, and motivates me to live yoga every day!
"My dream of feeling like a yoga teacher has finally come true."
An unforgettable month under the leadership and mentorship of Maddy brought its results. My dream of feeling like a yoga teacher has finally come true. And how could it be otherwise, when all the energy and attention switched in this direction thanks to the sensitive guidance of our wonderful teacher. Every day the fear of teaching faded before our eyes. A clear methodology of teaching yoga, daily repetition and honing of the technique and details of all asanas gave their shift to progress. The learning process was very busy. Special attention to philosophy and anatomy. Thanks to Maddy's professionalism and deep knowledge in the field of kinesiology and anatomy, we have deeply studied the processes that can be violated in the teaching process and not knowledge of the basic elements of movement and mechanics in the anatomy of each individual. I realized that yoga is not the goal to reach the peak, it is primarily an understanding of all the processes and transformations that occur in the process of practice and help to get to know yourself better, feel the connection with the inner cosmos, throw away illusions and start living here and now. To live qualitatively at the moment of presence. It breaks the ego that no one needs and builds relationships with the outside world through respect and understanding of the boundaries of others and their own. This training not only allows you to become a yoga teacher, but also to get to know yourself deeply and breaks the stereotypes created by people in the yoga business. The highest goal is self-knowledge and yoga is the greatest source for it. Thanks, Maddy, I deeply immersed myself in the study of philosophy, which gave me incredible pleasure in studying Bhagavadgita of the Holy Scriptures. Conversations on the topics of plots caused deep reflections and discussions. As a result, each participant of the retreat learned their own lessons from this. I was very happy to touch this source. As for daily morning practices, special attention should be paid to this. Since Maddy taught completely different classes every day in meaning and direction, intersecting with the theory of learning, which allowed us to see on a living example how different yoga can be and how creatively we can approach the construction and conduct of the lesson. Many thanks for the abundance of gifts and knowledge that we brought with us from this training. With gratitude. Teaching is not to practice. This is the responsibility that falls on my shoulders for the knowledge I pass on and for the physical health of each practitioner. It is very important for me to teach people to take care of themselves through body positioning, the accuracy of each pose with the exercises that lead to them, and not to reach. It is important to explain and understand yourself that the path is important, not its final result. And that the path can be the process of a whole life and that every day and the practice of yoga is the way to life, the way to eternity.
